About Course with Shantala Sriramaiah

Getting to know the Vedas

Week 1

Join us for this introductory session on the Vedas. In this first session, Shantala Sriramaiah will introduce what the Vedas are, what their central message is, how the mantras came into being and how they can help us with our inner transformation. You’ll get acquainted with the first peace mantra saha nāvavatu, the mantra that focuses on nourishment, brilliance, and protection of both teacher and student during the study process. The mantra is a good starting point for the inner peace quest, since we’ll pray together for a favorable outcome of all the unknown influences on our lives. Shantala and this first mantra go way back: it was the morning prayer in the school she attended in Bangalore, India. She can therefore not only explain the meaning of the mantra but will break up the mantra for you word by word and teach you how to chant it in the traditional way. Mastering this simple, yet profound mantra will help you with your first step towards inner peace.

The wisdom in the Vedas

Week 2

The mantras of the Vedas use a ritualistic language, yet they convey the deep symbolic inspiration to seekers of inner peace. In this second session, you’ll tap into this wisdom through understanding and practice of the Vedic mantras. You’ll learn the second peace mantra saṃ no mitraḥ, the ‘happiness’ mantra, so to say: it’s a prayer seeking happiness from various forces such as the morning sun, midday sun and evening sun. We all are divine beings, and via this second mantra we will greet and manifest the divine within us through our breathing. We will pray that we will be blessed with happiness and the knowledge to embody the truth of the teachings in our daily lives, by finding inner stillness. This mantra invites happiness over to protect our inner divineness, therefore providing inner peace.

Why do we chant mantras?

Week 3

In the third session, you’ll learn about the structure of the mantras and experience its immediate benefits of wellbeing, focus, and calmness. The third mantra bhadram will be introduced, the one to which hearing and speaking all things auspicious is central. This means that we will manifest to hear and see all that is favorable and promising. With the mantra we will praise the divine with firm and healthy bodies, we will wish for a joyful life and we will ask the universe and its divine forces to grant us inner peace.

The power of prayer

Week 4

The final session of the course focuses on the question of what it means to live a prayerful life. The Vedas are a great source for insight into this transformative wisdom. You’ll learn the fourth peace mantra Pūrṇa, the prayer that helps you manifest to feel complete and infinite – our natural state of being. This mantra symbolically poses the question: can there be more than one infinity? Through the clever poetry in this mantra, we will unfold the answer to this question and enjoy the beautiful and special arrangement of Vedic notes the mantra possesses. It consists of only two notes, creating a meditative effect that will help you to maintain the practice of a prayerful, peaceful life.

Summary The following resources will be provided for this course:

  • - 8 hours of live and interactive teachings
  • - Text with Vedic phonetic guide and word by word translation of the mantras
  • - MP3’s of all mantras taught during the course
