Eddie Stern is an Ashtanga Yoga teacher, author, and lecturer from New York City. He has a passion for engaging in a multidisciplinary approach to furthering understanding, education, and access to yoga through technology, scientific research, collaboration, and encouraging diversity in all aspects of his work. He studies philosophy, Sanskrit, ritual, science, and religion.
Eddie has most recently been invited to be an advisory board member of the Black Yoga Teachers Alliance. In addition to serving on the board of LIFE Camp, Eddie co-created The Urban Yogis program (a program under LIFE Camp) that trains youth and young adults in yoga and meditation for the purpose of supporting the reduction of gun violence in Queens, NY. Eddie also co-founded Set/Reset, a health and wellness educational non-profit that has trained US school teachers in practices based on yoga and meditation that has reached approximately 70,000 children in grades K-12 across 120 schools.
Eddie’s first solo book, One Simple Thing: A New Look at the Science of Yoga, examines from both a Western scientific perspective and an Eastern philosophical perspective the underlying mechanisms that make yoga an amazingly effective practice for health, well-being, and spiritual development. He also co-publishes and is an editor for Namarupa, Categories of Indian Thought, a Hindu philosophy and art journal, and a boutique book publishing house.
Eddie co-created the International Yoga and Science Conferences, an ongoing forum for presenting rigorous scientific evidence on yoga and meditation which is accessible, inspiring, and actionable.
Eddie also co-created The Breathing App, a free app that guides users in a paced breathing exercise that balances the nervous system, helping to improve sleep, and reduce stress and anxiety. His newest app (Yoga365) will be out January 1, 2021 and will teach users one, simple pose or breathing practice each day of the year.
